Containerized Electrical Room Design
EL-MOR required a container-based enclosure adapted to accommodate a 630 kVA transformer, electrical panels, and supporting infrastructure within a limited footprint. PILCO developed the mechanical design, coordinating equipment positioning, container modifications, access doors, ventilation openings, cable routes, and mounting details with the client. The scope included 3D modeling and manufacturing drawings to support supplier quotations and subsequent fabrication. Manufacturing, assembly, and installation were outside PILCO’s scope.
Challanges
- Accommodating the transformer, electrical panels, and supporting equipment within the container’s limited space.
- Coordinating cable entry openings and internal cable routes with the client’s electrical layout.
- Maintaining access to equipment, panel doors, and mounting fasteners.
- Adapting the container structure to accommodate openings, supports, and equipment interfaces.
- Translating evolving client requirements into detailed manufacturing drawings.
Solutions
- Developed a coordinated 3D layout for the transformer and electrical compartments.
- Defined cable entry openings and mechanical supports for cable ladders and trays
- Adjusted equipment positions and mounting details to account for door movement and tool access.
- Designed container modifications, ventilation openings, and custom equipment supports.
- Incorporated client review comments into the mechanical model and drawing package.
